Product Information and Technical Data

#130 SEBS Modified Asphalt Emulsion is a single component, clay stabilized asphalt emulsion base, modified with an SEBS polymer to yield a permanently elastic waterproofing compound for cold process built-up roofing. #130 is designed to be used in conjunction with specific polyester reinforcing ply sheets to form a cold process built-up roofing membrane. #130 is also very useful as a primer or coating component of various hot built-up, modified bitumen or sprayed urethane roofing systems.

Uses
#130 may be used as a
cold process adhesive for modified bitumen built-up roof assemblies. It may be used as an interply adhesive and surface coating for construction of fiberglass or polyester roof systems. May also be used as surfacing bitumen over existing or new built-up asphalt based roofs systems. Roof assemblies may be constructed using GlobalShield’s Spun Bonded Polyester, or Stitch Bonded Polyester roofing plies.

Advantages
#130
is easy to apply and provides excellent substrate adhesion and strong lap bonds. May be used with, coated fiberglass, or polyester ply sheets. #130 offers an unusual combination of controlled action and high adhesion strength. This unique modified asphalt adhesive is suitable for application by spray, brush, or squeegee. While the quality and performance of hot applied bitumen can vary a great deal, only select grades of asphalt are used. The result is a consistently high performance and weather capability. Our rigid quality controls are exercised through every step of manufacturing.

Cold process application means greater productivity on the roof. The system eliminates hot kettles, minimizes fumes and pollution. The traditional set-up and cleanup time on the roof is dramatically shortened. The risk of damage to the building, fire hazards and injury to personnel is greatly reduced.

Installation
Coverage
Interply Adhesive: Apply material at a minimum rate of 3 gallons per 100 square feet per ply.

Surface Coating: New Construction:

4 gallons per 100 s.f. for granule surface

5-7 gallons per 100 s.f. for gravel surfaces

Maintenance Coating:

minimum 7 gallons per 100 s.f. for gravel surfaces.

Minimum 4 gallons per 100 s.f. for smooth or granule surfaces

Surface Preparation
Substrate and all ply sheets must be dry. When used as a surface coating, remove all loose gravel, silt and other contaminates, preferable with roof vacuum. Repair all surface defects. Upgrade flashings and surrounding masonry. Prime porous surfaces with #101 Asphalt Primer.

Application
The following application information is designed to serve as a general guide. Depending upon your needs, detailed recommendations and design must be based on your roof’s existing set of conditions. The existing deck must be properly designed to support and secure the roof system. Ponding conditions are unacceptable and will adversely affect the performance of any roof system. Where positive drainage does not exist, water removal must be facilitated by lowering drains and/or installing tapered insulation, and/or installing additional drains. When adhesive is used with fiberglass plies, the adhesive must be sprayed to prevent ridging of ply sheet. Fiberglass plies must be cut in 18-20 foot lengths and allowed to relax a minimum of 30 minutes at 72°F or above, 45 minutes below 72°F, before installation into the adhesive. Do not re-roll relaxed lengths before placement. When installing GlobalShield Polyester Roofing Plies, the plies do not have to be pre-cut and adhesive may be spray, brush, or squeegee applied. Backnailing is required when slope exceeds 2 inches per foot. Adhesive cleans up with mineral spirits, but do not thin the product with this or any other solvents. For the easiest workability in cold temperatures, warm containers by storing them overnight in a room at 65° to 75° F.

Recommended Spray Equipment:

Airless:  Min. 1500 to 4000 psi. at the pump, 1500 psi. at the gun
Fluid Hose: ¾” + 5/8” at the gun
Tip Size: .065” to .072”

Restrictions
Do not use lightweight roofing felts such as Type IV or Type VI fiberglass roofing felt. Do not use with PVC film. Do not use where material, once applied, may come into contact with potable water. Not for use on or with products containing coal tar. Do not use on slate shingles or apply directly to wood surfaces. Not for use over rubber or plastic membranes - asphalt modified only. For exterior use only.
